EDITORIAL Networking All of the Levels Dear readers, There is one topic that is currently being discussed all around the country and the world – the networking of machines and systems. This is because Industrie 4.0 – our main objective for the future – requires an extremely large and extensive network that must even reach the smallest components within the factory and machine. Currently, there are still a variety of individual solutions although manufacturers and users are well-positioned to implement technical ideas. However, the key element to resolving future challenges is not just establishing a network between machines, workpieces, and individual components. Additional levels between humans and companies must also be developed to establish a network. Only intelligent cooperations and collaborations will ensure that we achieve the objective. Companies therefore need to change the way they think. They must be setup differently and develop new business models based on digitalization technologies. New markets will thus be developed and quickly conquered. It is also essential that production, construction, and IT departments increasingly work together. In discussions with mechanical engineers and IT experts it is clear that they are willing to cooperate – a fact that is already demonstrated at international events. They both need each other as Industrie 4.0 can only be implemented within networks. Existing examples of this approach are already illustrated in the WORLD OF INDUSTRIES and on our website at www.world-ofindustries.com. I would also like to remind you of the two upcoming trade fairs: CeMAT Russia (September 19 to 21, 2018 in Moscow) and IAS Industrial Automation Shanghai (September 19 to 23, 2018 in Shanghai). More information on this is also available in this issue. At the events, you will be able to see for yourself how networks and Industrie 4.0 already work together and are implemented in the intrologistics and industrial automation sectors. It therefore pays to look a little closer and always remain up-to-date when it comes to future industry solutions.
