EDITORIAL Motion, Drive and Automation Low risks, high returns With a billion plus population, a strong economy and a pro-business government in power, everyone’s eyes are locked on India. Companies from across the globe are betting high on three aspects of the country: Its size, demographics and its enormous scope of industrialization. But India is not one whole homogeneous market. The problem is that the regional-industrial investment behavior and patterns are extremely complex and diverse. To solve the problem of complexities, one of the alternatives can be to ‘discretize’. With the approach, that there are many Indias in one India, can lead to a model unique to every India. Having said that, the value of India as a market is due to its mass nature, so ‘hyper-discretizing’ India is like defeating the true nature of its opportunity. To unlock this larger opportunity, there is a need to adopt a ‘hybrid’ model that segments India without slicing the market too thin? In the past few months, industrialization and manufacturing is gathering further momentum. This, combined with government reforms, large infrastructure projects and initiatives like the ‘Make In India’ and ‘Digital India’, the country has become a top attraction for FDI, even ahead of USA and China. All these factors are thus propelling the demand for engineering goods and services, mainly the drive and fluid technology, process and factory automation. But firstly, to win in India, you have to come to India. You can start my by visiting the ‘WIN India’ trade fair that is taking place in New Delhi from 9th until 11th December 2015. This international trade fair will be demonstrating a broad spectrum of products from motion drives and transmission to hydraulics and pneumatics. Here, international companies and experts from the world of engineering will meet and interact to exchange ideas, to create new strategies and develop new concepts to satisfy India’s hunger for engineering goods and services.
