E-BUSINESS 02 Automatic

E-BUSINESS 02 Automatic order consolidation 03 Sorting at the loading bays About Vanderlande reaches out to and supplies customers via its online shops. Its increased success in the online trade segment means that Tesco must explore new avenues and optimize the way in which orders are processed, whereby the implemented solutions are an intermediate step towards an „integrated“ distribution center. The following challenges had to be overcome: n Secure delivery n Improved customer service n Efficient order processing n Reduced influence of dotcom operations on existing stores n Space limitations for transporters in certain geographic areas as well as cost/time reductions during order consolidation. Tesco opted for a semi-automatic system with the following main elements: Manual mini batch picking system (six orders/trolley) from conventional shelves (Image 01), automatic order consolidation with a 3-aisle HDS shuttle system (Image 02), and automatic sorting on to the loading bays (Image 03). The orders are buffered in the warehouse and removed again at the right time and in the correct order. This ensures that the waiting time of vehicles at the ramp is reduced and the cold chain for refrigerated and frozen products is guaranteed. The waiting Vanderlande, based in Veghel/Netherlands, is a global market leader in baggage handling systems for airports, and sorting systems for parcel and postal services. The company is also a leading supplier of warehouse automation solutions. CRANES & HOISTS 360 ° free movement with Dalmec manipulators Manipulators are used in various industries for lifting and moving heavy loads. The Dalmec S.p.A., Cles/Italy, has now developed a pneumatic manipulator, which can also perform rotating and pivoting movements. In hazardous areas of the chemical industry especially in ATEX-areas, the contents of barrels of all kinds, for example, steelrolling hoops-drums, plastic drums, canisters and fiber drums are decanted. Only accurately weighed aliquots are removed. For this requirement, Dalmec supplied a pneumatic manipulator type Partner Equo. Unlike other manipulators this manipulator cannot only lift, move and position different products, but it is also able to rotate and incline, allowing the operation of an accurate dosing of the barrel content. Precise pouring out In its basic configuration, the Partner Equo, which is controlled by a pneumatic circuit with pneumatic balancing cylinder, has two joints: The column joint ensures that the manipulator can be endlessly rotated about the main axis of rotation, the angle of rotation of the middle axis between parallelogram and terminal arm is limited by default to 315 °. The manipulators of the Italian Depending on the individual shaping of the workholding device, the various products can be precisely aligned company, however, are modular, of a basic unit, one terminal arm and a tooling or gripping device. This means it can be equipped with various mechanical or pneumatically actuated grippers. The third rotating joint allows the execution of rotation and tilt movements. You only need at least an air pressure of 0.6 MPa – exclusively through the pneumatic operation – the unit is very reliable and it can be easily maintained. If there is a failure of the compressed air, the gripped load cannot fall down. In addition, the brakes on the main and intermediate axis of rotation as well as on the tooling head fix the manipulator in each working area from the operator´s position. While using only compressed air, the Dalmec manipulators are also suitable for use in hazardous area protection. Individual handling The Partner Equo model can perform from a working range of 2.5 to 4.5 m and for loads up to 550 kg with a vertical stroke from 1.25 to 2.45 meters. Basically each of the Dalmec manipulators can suit the individual handling requirements in the requested operating area. Thus, the execution of this type of manipulator, is designed to fix column mounted on the floor, overhead fixed or overhead with runway and trolley. Also the dimension and form of the terminal arm can be customized so that the manipulator can be used even in tight working areas. The company provides two different categories of manipulators: manipulators with cables and manipulators with rigid arms. The modules are designed as a modular system that allows Dalmec to exclusively manufacture solutions that are tailored to the individual customer’s needs. f+h Intralogistics 2/2015 39
