EDITORIAL World in Transition Confocal sensor systems for displacement, distance and thickness Dear readers, The fourth industrial revolution has long since ceased to be just a slogan. It is already in full swing. It is changing our world and the ways in which producers, suppliers and customers interact. It is making digital e-Procurement platforms possible, linking production facilities right through to complete logistics processes, and provides data for new findings in research and development, e.g. for new methods in artificial intelligence. One of the countries that has developed into a digital pioneer is China. Compared to other countries, there is no great difference as far as the state-of-the-art is concerned. What is different, however, is the attitude towards the subject of digitalization. Anyone who wants to be among the leaders in Industry 4.0 has already been active in China for many years. At the other end of the scale is Russia. But the groundwork has been laid and the government is looking to support the changeover to digital corporate processes. This is being supported i. a. by the German Russian Initiative for Digitalization (GRID). Founder members on the German side here are Siemens, SAP, Bosch and the VW Group Rus. Russian members of this initiative are the Russian employers’ association, RSPP, Rostelecom, Skolkowo and “Zyfra”. confocalDT Highest precision and dynamics for all surface types High precision displacement and distance measurements Thickness measurement of glass and transparent objects Unrivalled sensor portfolio Extremely small measurement spot to detect smallest objects Highest measuring rate in the world: 70 kHz Ease of use via web browser You can already experience part of the modernization of industry and business even today: at the IAS – Industrial Automation Show in Shanghai (17-21 September 2019) that will be presenting the complex interaction of components, machines, software and IT, and at the CeMAT Russia in Moscow, the International Exhibition for Materials Handling, Warehousing Equipment and Logistics (24-26 September 2019). Let yourself be inspired by the global trends and technologies of tomorrow. Yours sincerely Nicole Steinicke Tel. +49 8542 1680 www.micro-epsilon.com/confocal
