IAMD Beijing: the focal

IAMD Beijing: the focal point of Northern China’s industrial sector NEWS AND MARKETS With demand for industrial automation products doubling in less than five years, China has already become one of the largest market. And as advanced manufacturing now becomes the core of China’s economy, the demand like never before for automation products and services is yet to come. C hina’s move from a low cost manufacturing destination to advanced and high-tech manufacturing economy is now in top gear. The policy makers in Beijing providing as much as support necessary in terms of credit line, reforms, business friendly policies, subsidies and international exposure. In the last few years, the demand for industrial automation products has sky rocketed not just from large multi-nationals but also from medium and small players. It has already become the largest market for automation products, in 2013, the country surpassed Japan as the largest market for robots. China continues to be the leader in the growth of robotics adoption, primarily driven by strong spending in process manufacturing and cross-industry applications. Robotics expenditure in the mainland is projected to be $ 60 billion in 2020, more than double the spending from five years ago. The strong market for robotics in the mainland has been reinforced by Beijing’s announcement of its “Made in China 2025” initiative, which promotes the fast-paced automation of major industries. It is estimated that more than 50 % of annual robotics spending in the mainland is for the assemblyline production of distinct products like cars, smart-phones, food & beverages, semiconductors, material handling in factories, warehouses and logistics facilities. Even today, in some areas of automation technology, China largely depends on technical know-how from foreign countries like Germany, Japan and South Korea. Currently, the country is working on developing more and more domestic automation solutions, either through innovation or acquisition. Chinese auto- Author: Sushen Doshi, International correspondent for World of Industries mation companies have consistently increased their share in the total industrial automation market from 40 % in 2010, to around 45 % by 2015, and is expected to leap beyond 50 % by 2020. Although the number of companies in this sector has multiplied exponentially in recent years, local providers of automation solutions still have considerable deficits in terms of precision, reliability and speed in certain fields. However, they are usually cheaper, closer to the customer, more flexible and can provide shorter delivery times. North China and Beijing, catching up with South China Recently, the governor of Guangdong, announced that 20,000 industrial robots will be installed in the country’s manufacturing heartland, the Guangdong Province. The move is part of China’s drive to intensify its efforts to digitalize the manufacturing sector and make the industry smarter and greener. This may seem like a great opportunity for the big robot makers globally. However, the Chinese government wants more of the robots to be made locally, which is another one of the aims of the Made in China 2025 strategy. The central government has been pushing the business sector to develop more advanced, hi-tech and innovative enterprises, believing that only this will help maintain the country’s dominance in some sectors of the global economy. But it is not only South China, even North China and Beijing are in the race to deploy latest technologies in automation and robotics as one of the main sectors for development. Apart from being the political capital of China, Beijing is also one of the most important industrial base in northern China. 10 WORLD OF INDUSTRIES 3/2018

As a part of Hannover Messe’s worldwide events, the IAMD Beijing is an important destination in the global exhibition itinerary. Over the last twenty years, IAMD Beijing, previously known as Industrial Automation Beijing, has been dedicatedly building an influential promotion platform for industrial automation products in northern China. Responding to the demands of today’s industrial enterprises, IAMD Beijing, has taken the lead in organizing a fair with that covers the entire factory shop floor and shows how it can be integrated into the Industry 4.0 environment. IAMD Beijing 2018 will exhibit more diversified products than ever before as this year, annual Industrial Automation (IA) fair will merge with the Motion, Drive & Automation (MDA). The new, combined flagship tradeshow will be called Integrated Automation, Motion & Drives (IAMD) and will feature the full range of industrial automation, power transmission and fluid power solutions. Transmission and fluid power systems play a key role in engine performance, with digitalization, these systems have now also become important data sources. Sensors, control systems and networking products are the real enablers of the fourth industrial revolution, and by bringing them together with electric and mechanical drive systems under the IAMD umbrella, Deutsche Messe has created a flagship fair reflects the reality of today’s market environment, which increasingly favors cross-sector and cross-platform solutions as well as digitally integrated products. Product Categories at IAMD Beijing 2018 Considering the variety of application industries, the organizers of IAMD Beijing 2018 have categorized the different areas of automation under several specialized themes: On display will be a wide variety of sensors and transducers including the identification sensors, industrial image processing sensors, measuring sensors, safety sensors and transducer systems. In the Control technology segment, visitors can see control systems like PLCs, Scada, industrial PC based control systems including all the hardware for industrial PCs. Any talk of automation without its relevant software is futile. IAMD Beijing also showcases software for industrial applications like project planning, plant administration, integrated management and production planning software, ERP, software for control technology and programming, cloud computing applications and cyber security for automation and automated plants. With Motion & Drives segment now merging with Industrial Automation, IAMD also offers power supply products like signal converters, contactors, motor protection devices, circuit breakers, monitoring and protection equipment, power back-up and supply systems, safety devices and systems; HMI devices like display monitors and screens, control panels, control and signal devices, Industrial communication products like fieldbus and ethernet systems, and wireless communication systems; fluid power and mechanical power transmission systems in hydraulics, pneumatics and sealing technology, gears, chains, belt transmission, bearings, couplings, springs and fasteners; drive systems like various motors and frequency inverters; infrastructure items like control cabinets, housing systems, cables and fiber optics systems. This international trade fair promises to be an exciting place for large as well as small companies, who are interested to make the most out of north China’s automation boom. The complete and comprehensive automation event of the year in Northern China, opens on 9th May at the Beijing Exhibition Center. The 3 day event hosts more than 200 companies from all over the world, showcasing their products and intelligent technologies within a display area of 20,000 sq. meters and attracting up to 20,000 professionals and industry experts from all the relevant industry sectors. This exhibition presents exhibitors not only from China but also from countries like USA, Germany, Japan, Taiwan, India, Holland and France. Visitors mainly representing the OEM’s from machinery, machine tools, automobiles, packaging and electronics manufacturers, and end user companies from food and beverage, and pharmaceuticals industry attend this international event in search of new and innovative products and solutions for their industrial requirements.
