Worldwide News B&R User Meeting in Shanghai shows ways to the future Shinano Kenshi opens office in Frankfurt In light of increasing pressure for end users and OEMs to implement “smart factory” solutions that merge automation and IT technology, B&R China’s annual User Meeting addressed how companies can best meet the challenges of the future. With end users from a variety of industries making up 30 % of the participants, the event itself illustrated the type of cooperation that Industry 4.0 calls for between automation suppliers, OEMs, end users and system integrators. Managing director of B&R China, Xiao Weirong, presented his vision of how industrial automation can respond to the challenges that lie ahead. “In order to remain competitive,” he explained, “end users and OEMs need to create platforms for continuous innovation. With an own company in Germany, the company widens its presence in Europe. The opening is an important part of the growth strategy for the long-established family-owned Japanese corporation in the European region. Based on this new location customers and sales partner all over Europe will be serviced. The product portfolio includes brushless DC and stepping motors, used in a variety of different industry applications. The European market represents an enormous potential for the Shinano Kenshi Group. President/CEO Motoaki Kaneko: “There is a strong trend towards more energy efficiency in Europe. With the new subsidiary in Germany Shinano Kenshi is able to respond even better to this trend and provide support to customers in an earlier stage.” www.shinano.be SKF invests in new lubrication systems factory in the Czech Republic SKF has inaugurated its expanded lubrication systems manufacturing facility in the Czech Republic. The factory has been designed with a focus on reducing the building’s overall environmental impact, including more efficient energy and water usage and choice of more sustainable building materials. This has contributed to the building being awarded the US Green Building Association’s highest possible LEED Platinum rating. SKF has made significant investments in expanding its lubrication systems business in recent years, since the acquisitions and integrations of Willy Vogel AG and Lincoln International in 2004 and 2010, respectively. German drive and fluid technology the best in the world German drive and fluid technology is subject to high demand around the world and can enjoy a top position in competition. With a total of approx. € 22 bn, the turnover volume of the two important supplier industries is at a high level, making them the largest industry segments within German machine and plant construction, the turnover of drive technology amounted to approx. € 15.4 bn in in 2014, the turnover of fluid technology to approx. € 6.6 bn. Thus, both industries have grown as compared to the prior year (drive technology 2013: € 15.1 bn; fluid technology 2013: € 6.3 bn ) and support the high demand for top technology “Made in Germany”. With a view to 2015, the two industries have a positive attitude. The German drive technology expects a turnover increase of 2 %, the German fluid technology even one of 5 %. They rely on efficiency, intelligence and premium quality as criteria for their success. www.hannovermesse.com EPTDA elects new board in Istanbul During the Annual convention in Istanbul, EPTDA (the association in the PT/MC industry in the EMEA region) announced the appointment of its 2015 Board of Directors at its 17 th Annual Convention in Istanbul. The new Board of Directors will be headed by Mrs. Elisabeth Meister as the new President of the association. Mrs. Meister, the first female President of EPTDA, is also the General Manager of Ludwig Meister GmbH & Co, Germany and has been actively supporting the growth of the association as a volunteer since 2003. Mrs. Meister is also a representive of the Next Generation community within EPTDA and her appointment signals the commitment of our industry towards the leaders of the future. www.eptda.org Danfoss Group takes over Vacon Drive manufacturer Vacon is now part of Danfoss group. In September, Danfoss announced the public acquisition offer for all shares of the Finnish company. Since the end of November, the necessary majority of more than 90 % of the shares and voting rights has been held by Danfoss, and the consent of all relevant authorities has been present.
