News and markets Mechanical engineering and plant construction in China – a short overview Solid growth expected After the year of 2012 was rather difficult for the Chinese engineering industry, 2013 went much better. The China Machinery Industry Federation (CMIF) had forecast a growth of no more than 10 %. The effective turnover increase in almost all segments was at 12 to 16 %, and thus clearly above the growth rate of the gross domestic product of 7.7 %. The top contributor was agricultural and forestry machinery (+16.3 %). The industry has an optimistic outlook on the future in 2014 as well: CMIF expects a turnover increase of 10 to 15 % (Chinese differentiation). The Verband Deutscher Maschinen- und Anlagenbau (VDMA) assumes 7 % (closer differentiation). AUTOMATION TECHNOLOGIES 2/2014
